High-capacity photorefractive neural network implementing a kohonen topological map.
We designed and built a high-capacity neural network based on volume holographic interconnections in a photorefractive crystal. We used this system to implement a Kohonen topological map. We describe and justify our optical setup and present some experimental results of self-organization in the learning database.
متن کاملSelf-Organizing Topological Timbre Design Methodology Using a Kohonen Neural Network
Generating sounds for music composition with the desired timbral characteristics has been a challenge ever since the dawn of electroacoustic music. Timbre is a remarkably complex phenomenon that has puzzled researchers for a long time. Actually, the nature of musical signals is not fully understood yet. In this paper, we present a sound synthesis technique that uses Kohonen’s one-dimensional se...
متن کاملColor reduction using local features and a kohonen self-organized feature map neural network
This paper proposes a new method for reducing the number of colors in an image. The proposed approach uses both the image color components and local image characteristics to feed a Kohonen self-organized feature map (SOFM) neural network. After training, the neurons of the output competition layer define the proper color classes. The final image has the dominant image colors and its texture app...
متن کاملSelf - organizing photorefractive neural network
The three dimensional display of images of moving objects has been a dream for many decades. Ranging from a study of microscopic objects, such as cells, in their natural environment to three dimensional movies, this dream has been realized under certain circumstances. Short recordings of moving objects have been made holo-graphically in silver halide films. But apart from limited sensitivity, t...
متن کاملPhotorefractive adaptive resonance neural network.
We describe a novel adaptive resonance theory (ART) device that is fully optical in the input-output processing path. This device is based on holographic information processing in a photorefractive crystal. This sets up an associative pattern retrieval in a resonating loop that uses angle-multiplexed reference beams for pattern classification. A reset mechanism is used to reject any given beam,...
